glass balustrades in your home

4 Different Types of Glass Balustrades For Your Home

Your home is your haven; you make every effort to keep it in good shape and add various features to it or remodel and redecorate it. While it may not always be possible or even necessary to make major upgrades, sometimes even small additions can help create a new look and improve the aesthetics of your property. This is where glass balustrades come into the picture. These features are stunning in every way and are extremely versatile too. In residential spaces, there are a number of different ways in which you can use glass balustrades in your home such as for:

#1 Patios and decks

If you have a raised deck structure in your yard, and want to add some safety to it, a glass balustrade is an excellent installation. This feature can be installed along the periphery of the deck and provides demarcation to the space and the railings provide safety as well. In case you have kids and pets in the home and want to restrict their movement to the yard areas, you can install a frameless glass balustrade along the periphery.

You can add a glass gate at one end of the feature and this provides the safety and security you want in this area. The glass panels are smooth and don’t provide any scope for your kids or pets to clamber over, unlike metal or wooden balustrades that provide many footholds and handholds.

#2 Balconies

Many homes have balconies leading out from bedrooms and other rooms and these give you the opportunity to sit out and enjoy the open air. However, if you have metal, wooden or any other opaque balustrades or railings, they only hinder the view when you are sitting in the balcony or even the adjacent room. The one way to have your cake and eat it too is to get glass balustrade installed.

This feature can be custom-designed to fit the shape of the balcony perfectly and it won’t hamper the view. In fact, it will bring in more natural light into the room as well. If you don’t have a standard balcony, you can choose to get a Juliet balcony installed against the exterior of your bedroom windows.

#3 Terraces and rooftop gardens

If you have a terrace extending out of any storey of your home or even a rooftop garden, you would want to make sure the space is safe for use and a glass balustrade will provide safety. You can use this as an entertainment or relaxation spot and would be able to enjoy the view without any obstacles. Metal and timber balustrading looks good but blocks the view and that impacts the manner in which this area can be used.

#4 Staircases

If your home has an internal staircase, the one way to add to its stability and safety is to install a balustrade along its length. Some homes also have internal landings that open out onto a common high-ceiling living space within the home. These landings would need safety features along their edges, and glass balustrades suit these purposes very well.

We can custom-build a balustrade for you and this installation will blend in seamlessly with design and styling of the staircase and the rest of your home décor. In fact, you can choose from bevelled or stained and etched glass to create the look you want. A glass balustrade made of glass opens up the indoor spaces as it’s transparent and doesn’t block the view.
