If you are considering getting a glass pool fence installed, one of the first things you would consider is the type of glass it would require. It is crucial that you get an installation which is in line with Australian Standards. It’s not uncommon to hear about glass fencing shattering because it was made of inferior quality materials. There are a number of things you have to take into consideration when you choose to get a glass pool fence for your property:
Thickness of the glass panels
The commonly available glass panel thicknesses range from 6mm-12mm; however, you can order customized panels that are up to 18mm thick. When we handle any glass pool fencing project, we use:
- 10mm thick glass for semi frameless installations
- 12mm-18mm thick glass for frameless installations
- You can also get 6mm-8mm glass panels, but we don’t recommend that these be used in the installation. They aren’t able to withstand impact and cannot take high wind loads. The thicker the glass panels, the less the chances of them shattering in windy or stormy weather
The height & the width of the pool fence panels
Typically, glass pool fences stand 1200mm high. Depending on your specific preferences and design requirement, there can be a variation in the width of the panels. Generally, semi-frameless glass pool fence panels are 1600mm-1800mm wide; in frameless installations, the panels may be 1800mm-1900mm wide.
All the glass panels we use have the Conformity Mark of Australian Standards. Apart from this, all our panels are manufactured using the latest technology and equipment and meet very strict criteria and quality standards. Using high-grade materials increases the longevity of the installation.
Regardless of what quality of glass panels you use, if the hardware is of poor quality, that will impact the integrity of the structure and reduce its longevity too. Most spigots available in the market today, are made of casting as these are a very cost-effective option. However, we are highly committed to maintaining quality standards in our work and use a range of premium fittings that are manufactured using high-precision CNC machining.
This offers greater consistency and precision, and the final product has a more finished and elegant look. These spigots are made of high-grade 316L marine grade SS forged bar, and are available in mirror/satin finishes; you can pick them depending on your aesthetic and applications requirements.
Custom glass panels
In instances where a fence meets some other structure such as stairs, a garden bed, decking or a retaining wall etc, we would have to provide custom glass panels. While most projects call for standard shapes, sizes and specifications, in cases such as these, the only option is to use custom panels. While the standard shapes and sizes are far more cost-effective compared to the tailor-made ones, we provide you very competitively-priced solutions. In case custom panels are required in your work, you will be informed about it and we will provide you a detailed quote that includes the relevant pricing.
