When pools and spas are being built, safety is one of the most important factors that have to be taken into consideration. Getting a fence installed is the best way to ensure that very young children stay away from the water, when they are unsupervised, or when you don’t want them to get into the pool.
When you build a wooden fence or one made of aluminium or any or similar material, the structure tends to block the view, even as it segregates the space in your yard. However there is one material that serves the same function, without obstructing the view or impacting the look of your yard in any way.
Glass fence installation steps
In fact, most homeowners now prefer getting glass pool fencing for their property. You can choose between, framed, semi-framed or frameless glass fencing based on your specific preferences and budget. Here are the steps to install a glass pool fence:
#1 Check local council regulations
Even before you start with pool fence installation; check what rules apply, with the local authorities. Ensure that you are or in line with all the existing regulations. The fence has to meet the Australian safety standards.
#2 Marking the post positions
Next, the positions of the pool fence posts will have to be marked and measured. Hammer in a nail between the boards of the deck. Next, you have to tie a string line to the nails and run it right beyond the entire length of your fence. Ensure it’s in a straight line and then tie it off very lightly.
#3 Place your mini posts under this string line
Follow all the instructions that have been mentioned in the kit; take measurements and mark the points at which the mini posts will be; and ensure they are all aligned to each other.
#4 Pre-drill & secure the mini posts
Pre-drill all the required holes in your deck for these mini posts, using a cordless drill.
#5 Secure all the metal protectors to these mini posts
Remove your string line, and place the metal rings right over the top of all mini posts. This will hide their screws and this adds to the aesthetics of the installation.
#6 Insert the metal plates & the grips
The metal plate will have to be inserted into the mini posts and the rubber grip has to be inserted. Leave a bit of the grip out, as this will allow the glass fence to slide into the post.
#7 Insert the spacers & the glass panels
Next, you insert the spacers that are inside the kit, into the mini posts and then set the glass panel into the mini post.
#8 Check if the panel is level
Using a spirit level, just check whether the panel is level and then insert all the rest of the panels and adjust them as required.
#9 Secure the glass panels
Once you have done all this ensure that the glass panels are all secure and tighten the bolts that are on the mini posts. Care should be taken to ensure that the correct distance is maintained between the hinged panel and the glass panel; this is where the glass door will be installed.
#10 Glass gate hinges
The rubber protectors should be placed on both sides of the glass at the point where the hinges are going to be fitted. Place the spiked caps on these door hinges. This prevents anyone from using these fixtures to climb over the fence.
